KEHINDE WILEY INSPIRED SELF-PORTRAITS

Students grades 10-12 created an acrylic self-portrait inspired by contemporary artist Kehinde Wiley. Students utilized color mixing and color grids, acrylic techniques, and grid drawings to improve accuracy. Students reviewed PowerPoint presentations on Kehinde Wiley and shared their work in a group critique and discussion. 

 

(Advanced Art)

Students grades 12 created an oil portrait inspired by contemporary artist Kehinde Wiley. Students stretched and primed their own canvas. Students utilized color mixing and color grids, acrylic techniques, underpainting, and grid drawings to improve accuracy. Students reviewed PowerPoint presentations on Kehinde Wiley and shared their work in a group critique and discussion.

THERAPEUTIC ART

Studio in Art

(Drawing and Painting)

Students grades 9-12 created an original artwork in the style of adult coloring books, mandalas, or zentangles. Students reviewed PowerPoint presentations on therapeutic art and completed an artist statement as an assessment

Students grades 10-12 created an artist page about contemporary artist Kehinde Wiley. Students researched facts and artwork from the artist as well as reviewed a PowerPoint presentation.

GRAFFITI NAME TAGS

Studio Art

Students grades 9-11 created graffiti-inspired name tags using watercolor pencils. Students ​reviewed a presentation on graffiti history, contemporary graffiti artists, and discussed questions including "is graffiti art?" and "why do people make graffiti?"​

Studio Art

Students grades 10-11 created fantasy rooms using one point perspective. Students used composition, line, and pattern to create rooms inspired by their personal interests.

Colored Pencil Exploration

Drawing and Painting I

Students grades 10-12 created develop their skills using colored pencils.  They utilized layering, blending, and burnishing the pencils by completing a techniques worksheet.  Finally, they demonstrated their skills by creating a Color Wheel Mandala and a Major Project Drawing.

Students grades 10-12 created an anthropomorphic creature with watercolor and ink. Anthropomorphic meaning with human characteristics. Students utilized principles and elements of art including composition, line, pattern, texture, and value.

Students grades 8, 10, and 11 created an "exquisite corpse" through a group activity. Students collaborated on a single drawing while taking turns drawing one section of the body.
